Instead of transporting electricity from far away places, it can be produced in you own backyard or neighborhood.

The first consideration is design of the building. This is the concept of passive solar power comes into play. You let nature do some of the work for you. People often no view their homes as funcitional structures that are places of production, not only consumption.
